Why do anabolic steroids worsen cholesterol, and can supplements cancel that out?
Lipid changes are a risk signal, not just an inconvenient lab flag.
AAS exposure can lower HDL cholesterol and raise atherogenic lipid measures, with the pattern depending on the compounds and exposure. HAARLEM measured unfavorable changes during use rather than relying only on retrospective reports. A good physique or high training volume does not prevent these changes.[1]
Long-term AAS-user research has also found more coronary plaque alongside impaired cardiac function. These observational findings do not quantify the contribution of each drug for an individual, but they show why a lipid panel should be considered part of cardiovascular assessment rather than a cosmetic target.[2]
Nutrition, aerobic activity, smoking status, blood pressure, family history, and clinician-directed lipid treatment all belong in the discussion. No supplement stack has demonstrated that it neutralizes the cardiovascular consequences of continued AAS exposure. Improving one marker does not certify the whole regimen as safe.[1][2]
